Geocache Description:

This Geocache overlooks a large Prairie / Wetland area on the south side of the trail.  This area is usually flooded, but sometimes it is much more dry.  It is a protected wetland by the City of Shakopee.  In this area, we have viewed deer, pheasant, nesting Canadian Geese, wild turkey, birds of prey, and even a coyote.  When the development of homes was built on the south side of the wetlands, a lot of excavating was done to improve the wetlands area.  Since then, many more waterfowl have used this area for nesting, breeding, raising young, and to rest during migration.

The drain pools / ponds on the north side of the path "filter" water that runs off of our neighborhood roads and lawns.  The series of pools drains from West to East, in sequence.  During a rain storm, we have witnessed these ponds rise by five feet or more.  The pond furthest to the east, the pond nearest this cache, drains under the walking path into the wetlands area.
