In the "Lord of the Rings, Return of the King", book and movie, Denethor II was the Steward of Gondor. He is also a good example of the changes that were made between the books and the movies.
Some of the changes were minor, such as having one character's horse's name given to the horse of another character. Others were more significant. Women (Arwen and Eowyn) were given greater roles in the movies than they had in the books.
On the other hand, Denethor was treated rather shabbily by Peter Jackson. He was portrayed in a more favorable light, and as a much more sympathetic character, in the book than he was in the movie.
