The Wildcat Trail (156) is a steep ridge incline from the Lower Siouxon valley below to the Huffman Peak Trail above. On the way up, you'll definitely want to take a moment to admire this impressive water feature...
***** CONGRATULATIONS to LPS WOLF for the FTF on a cache that went unnoticed for more than two years! *****
DIRECTIONS: From Yale Bridge Rd., head east on Healy Rd. (Don't forget to purchase your Discover Pass at the Chelatchie Store!) Past Tumtum Mtn., Healy becomes Forest Road 54. At the Skamania county line, veer left onto FR57. Turn left again at 5701, immediately past the quarry, and follow it to its end. Park at the Siouxon trailhead and hike upstream... Unless you're coming at it from a different point of entry, (and there are other, longer alternatives), you'll have to ford the Siouxon where it meets the Wildcat. In summer, it runs knee-deep, but when I made the crossing in February, it was thigh-high and ice-cold, with a considerably swift current. Take precautions and recognize the hazards. DO NOT underestimate the power of the creek... The cache is an orange half-quart container nestled among some mossy rocks along the Wildcat Trail, at the overlook above the falls; not below. Follow the blatant clue in the spoiler pic to pinpoint its location. Exercise caution near the edges. It's quite a drop...
