The Hymnal
an Intercache about the old hymns as inspired by my grandmother

When I was growing up… it was always a treat when we got to visit my grandparents for a day… or even moreso when we got to stay with them for a whole week. And not because they had lots of stuff to do that we didn't have at home. Quite the contrary. There was no TV. There was no computer or game system. And they were actually more strict and conservative than my parents. But what there was… was love like only a grandma can show.

And for quite a few summers when I was of elementary school age… my sister and I would spend one week of the summer in their home where we could feel that love abundantly. And even when us kids were probably more of a handful than we should have been… she stayed in good spirits and even sang around the house.

Living as a pastor's wife for what was around a half a century… she had grown to love singing and sharing the old hymns that have been sung in the churches for ages. And she couldn't help but share that appreciation with those around her. Hearing her song just made you smile.

It was a few years before she went on to sing those hymns forever… and knowing how much I like music… she passed on an old hymnal to me. I've hung onto it for all these years and pull it out from time to time both to remind me of her… and to enjoy the music within it.

With this cache… I share with you my love for my grandmother… and a little of her appreciation for these songs by taking you to several of the places in Union where these old hymns are sung. At each location… you will have to stop and answer a question about a hymn. Most will be somewhat familiar if you grew up going to church. But even if you didn't… a quick Ineternet search should yield the information you need. In the end… you will be taken to the storage space of the hymnal itself.

Note: In the end… the hymnal itself had to be removed from the storage container to make room for the other things like a log book, signature items and an appropriate geocoin as a prize for the FTF. Thank you for understanding.
