Geocache Description:

Welcome to Loughrea lake.

Welcome to Loughrea (Baile Locha Riach) - or to translate "The town of the grey lake". The town takes its name from the large lake which sits on the southern end of the town. The clear waters provide some of the best trout angling in the country. There are remnants of man made islands or crannogs dotted around the lake. These were used as places of refuge by the neolithic people.  There is a public Amenity Park developed at Long Point providing facilities for sailing, swimming, and boating. You can park at the long point and stroll to the little park where the cache is hidden. There is a picnic table for a rest and amazing views accross the lake.

While in the area be sure and visit the town of Loughrea. It is steeped in history. It was one a medieval walled town and there is much evidence of its past clearly visible. I hope you enjoy your visit
