Geocache Description:

This is by far one of the more unique hiding experiences I've had. As anyone who has found many of my geocaches knows, I enjoy making guardrail hides. I think one of the reasons I do enjoy them is that they allow geocaches to be places in more everyday type places. When I started geocaching one of the things that fascinated me was how many geocaches I would pass on a daily basis without even realzing it, and it's one of the main reasons I continue to make them.

At any given time I have caches ready to go in the little pouch on the back of the passenger seat of my car. If a possible hiding spot catches my eye, I'll pull over and see if I can make the hide. On this night, I was out with my caching buddy WAYAF making a couple late night finds, since we hadn't been doing much geocaching in the winter. I figured it was time to give back by hiding one of my own, when I noticed the spot you'll be coming to for this cache. I pulled in, and WAYAF went to go make the hide that I have become well-known for, while I pulled out my phone to take coordinates for the hide. WAYAF came back with not my cache in hand, but what appeared to be a magnetic keyholder with the magnet missing.

My initial reaction was that there was no way that we just unintentionally stumbled upon a mystery cache or possibly a multi-cache. I popped open the keyholder and there was a log waiting for us, but it quickly became apparent that this was no active geocache. The last log was from 2008, so I knew that I could still make this hide, but to keep the spirit of the old cache alive, I put my new log into the old container, and placed it back where it was found.

The next day, I noticed that lhe log was labelled "Double Dog Dare". After a quick googling, I found the cache page (GC12QX8), and read up on what the previous cache entailed. You can look at it yourselves, but basically it required a dare to be completed to be able to make the log, and then you were able to declare the new dare for the next person. Interesting concept for sure, but it appears confusion over the logging process led to it's eventual archival.

I will not be carrying on the tradition of the double dog dare, but rather a single dog dare, and it's not an absolute must, but just strongly recommended to make each log more interesting. The "dare" is to include in your log the single dog that you love most, whether it be real or fictional.

I'll start with my favorite dog, my pup Nikko. I got him from the RISPCA in East Providence back in April 2010. He's a great bud, a smart fella, and more recently has become an awesome geodog. He's a boxer/pointer mix, and is around 10 years old at the time of writing this (not sure of his exact birthday)

I'll be looking forward to reading the logs for this cache, it should be fun, and as always, happy caching!
