Hej Anders&Katriinkeri!

Geocache Description:

Finnish activities # 13

20% of the population in Upplands Väsby is Swedenfinnish. This means they are Finns living in Sweden. This series of caches introduce you to Finnish activities, some more crazy than others!

Makkara mania!

Before we get started, learn this important vocabulary:

Makkara= sausage

Nakki = Hot dog

The best makkara is made in Finland. All Finns know it. In Finland makkara is eaten everywhere and in all forms. At the local supermarket you will discover that the variation and amount of makkara is huge. They come in all shapes and sizes. Makkara is baked, fried, cooked, grilled, oven baked with macaroni, served in all kinds of sauces, baked into bread, put on pizza, fried on the rocks in the sauna and not to forget the Finnish national dish – Makkarasoppa (Sausage soup)!

Makkara is best when grilled over open fire outdoors or in the fireplace inside. It is great food for all seasons. Finnish makkara is eaten with mustard so forget about ketchup.

When you go to a Finnish Nakkikioski (Hot dog stand) and ask for a nakki be sure to ask for bread too. Traditional Nakki is served with only mustard, no bread.
