Geocache Description:

E-M-F The Everitt-Metzger-Flanders Co. Detroit, Michigan 1909-1912

The E-M-F was a slightly larger American Automobile than its companion make, the Flanders. The Everitt-Metzger-Flanders Company of Detroit was made up of Barney Everitt, William E. Metzger and Walter E. Flanders. All were evolved in the automobile business in one form or another. Walter E. Flanders had been Henry Ford's production manager prior to 1909.

The $1,200.00 1909 E-M-F 30 horsepower Roadster specification included a seating capacity of three persons, 106 inch wheelbase, 56 inch gauge, 32 inch x 3 1/2 inch wheels and tires, four cylinder water cooled engine, selective sliding gear three speed transmission and shaft drive.

The Everett-Metzger-Flanders Company was incorporated under the laws of Michigan, August 4, 1908, with a capital stock of $3,500,000. The company was organized to manufacture and market in large quantities a medium priced gasoline propelled automobile.

Promptly after the organization of the company, Studebaker made an arrangement with it under which Studebaker obtained certain exclusive rights to sell the product to be known as Studebaker E-M-F cars. Studebaker shortly afterwards acquired substantial stockholdings in the company and by 1910 purchased the remaining stock and became sole owner of the business. By 1912 the E-M-F factory was producing the Studebaker Six.
