Dugnadsånden har alltid stått sterkt i Gullverket. Dette kom kanskje ekstra tydelig frem da samfunnshuset ble bygget.
Både før og etter krigen 1940-45 var det flere lag og foreninger i Gullverket som ønsket seg et fast møtelokale. Det var mange ønsker og løse planer, men noe konkret kom det ikke ut av det før Øivind Granli (1927-1999) satte i gang.
-Vi bygger samfunnshus, sa’n Øivind på et møte 26. mars 1956. Forslaget ble enstemmig vedtatt på et oppfølgingsmøte 28 september samme år. Og samfunnshus ble det etter mye planlegging og kronerulling.
Det ble holdt lynlotteri, innsamling fra lag og foreninger og fiskekonkurranse i Hoelsjøen, hvor hovedpremien var en 1958 modell Skoda Oktavia, innkjøpt av Øivind Granli. Konkurransen gikk såpass bra at han fikk tilbake utleggene sine, samt at det ble et stort overskudd til byggeprosjektet. Det ble også solgt andeler, noe som endte med at det ble 300 andelseiere. Det offentlige bidro også til realiseringen. Så stor tro på prosjektet hadde Øivind, at han pantsatte huset sitt for å få det realisert! Og det gikk bra.
Gullverket samfunnshus ble innviet 12 mars 1960 med stor festmiddag. Selve huset ble reist på dugnad av bygdas dyktige håndverkere, kun et fåtall tjenester ble leid inn.
Under innvielsen ble Granli hedret som selve gullgutten i prosjektet, men selv var han svært opptatt av å få frem at alle hadde like mye ære for at bygget ble reist.
Siden den gang har samfunnshuset vært gullverkingenes møteplass til fest og andre anledninger, og dugnadsånden er like sterk nå som den gang det ble bygget; bygget driftes og vedlikeholdes fortsatt av frivillige.

Voluntary efforts have always been strong in Gullverket. This came perhaps extra apparent when the community house was built.
Both before and after the war from 1940 to 1945 there were several clubs and associations in Gullverket who wanted a permanent meeting place. There were many wishes and loose plans, but nothing concrete came out of it before Øivind Granli (1927-1999) started.
-Let’s build a community house, said Øivind at a meeting on 26 March 1956. The proposal was unanimously adopted at a follow-up meeting on September 28 the same year. And the community house was built after much planning and fundraising.
There was held lotteries, money collection from clubs and associations and a fishing competition in Hoelsjøen, where the grand prize was a 1958 model Skoda Oktavia, purchased by Øivind Granli. The competition was so good that he got back his outlays, and that there was a large surplus to build the community project. There was also sold shares, which ended with around 300 unitholders. The public also contributed to the realization. So great faith did Øivind have in the project that he mortgaged his house to get it realized! And it went well.
Gullverket community house was inaugurated March 12, 1960 with great banquet. The house itself was built by volunteers of the village’s skilled craftsmen, only a few services were hired.
During the inauguration Granli was honored as the golden boy of the project, but he was very keen to emphasize that everyone had just as much honor in the building of the community house.
Since then, the community house has been the villagers meetingplace for parties and other occasions, and the community spirit is as strong now as once it was built; the building is still operated and maintained by volunteers.
