Out today checking on one of my GS series caches that needed fixing and it was such a beautiful day that I decided to hike to the top of Gray Butte so no better time to set a few more caches. So if you do decide to hike to the top you can take a break every so often and grab a cache. Once on top don’t forget to grab the three caches that are up there and enjoy the views. The caches are all close to the road and about .11 miles apart.
There are a couple of ways to hike up to the road to Gray Butte, when the gate is open you can drive up to the road but if its closed you could start at Scull Hollow (just follow your GPS to the Cole Loop #1 cache)(over a 2000 foot elevation gain) and follow the Cole loop trail to the road or you can start at the Gray Butte Trailhead (just follow your GPS to the G-S#1 cache)(around a 1200 foot elevation gain) and follow the trail around to the road and on up to the top. The hike from Road to the top #1 to the top of the butte is around a 1000 foot elevation gain. There is only room for the log so don't forget your writing stick.
