Geocache Description:

A more challenging cache along the Regent's Canal. This one is placed near St. Pancras Basin.

Please note the difficulty and terrain ratings! This area is very busy at times and I don't advise attempting this cache during a busy time! The cache is hard to reach on your own and you may not be able to reach or replace it properly without any help. A leg up from a friend can be very helpful. Make sure you replace it out of sight and don't attempt it if you think you may not be able to replace it properly.

Walk under the railway bridge and there's plenty to see.

Right after the bridge is the St. Pancras Basin which was opened in 1870 as a coal wharf and is now home to the St Pancras Cruising Club.

Keep walking a bit and you're at the St. Pancras lock

Looking across the lock you'll see the old lockkeeper’s cottage and just behind it the Waterpoint. This is a water tower build in the 1970’s used to provide water for the steam engines. It was moved by about 640m in order to make way for the Eurostar to get to St Pancras station.

Behind you, you’ll see a lot of construction going on. You can see ‘Gasholder No. 8’, which was in use from the 1850s to 2000, when it was dismantled to be refurbished. The frame will soon house a new park.

To the South-East is an empty space where gasholders 10, 11 and 12 will be re-erected after they have been restored. These are also known as the ‘Siamese Triplet’ as they are joined by a common spine.
