One of the 19th century collections of buildings, that have been recently restored, includes the house of a famous pearl merchant from Al-Meraikhi family, while pieces of ceramics were found during the restoration of the foundations of nearby mosque shards of pottery dating back to the early Islamic late era. This cache marks the location of the Museum.

Further development of the "GeoCaching Trail of Delma Island" and one of my faveroite camping spots in the UAE (near to Ruwais) is Delma Island Of note is that the museum is in the middle of a round about, not much traffic but please take care. In the past, the island of Dalma was considered the main marine center for pearl fishing, and the records mention that pearl markets were regularly held for vendors who came from the ends of the globe such as India. Delma is one of the most historic islands that tourists tend to visit. It is one of the oldest populated areas in the UAE, as it dates back to over 7000 years. Due to its main trade activities, the island was the favorite stopping point for trade fishermen and pearl divers, where a lot of goods would pass through it on their way to and from the Arabian Peninsula. The island is located at a distance of 24 kilometers from Jabal Al-Dhannah. Delma is characterized by its dark mountains of about one hundred meters high covered with orchards and farms, which border the island’s white sandy beaches. These fascinating terrains can be explored by driving 4x4 vehicles or even mountain bikes. On the top of mountains, you will see eagles watching the flocks of ostriches heading for the water and fish, especially ‘grouper’ fish known as the best in the Gulf and which visitors can catch themselves and enjoy eating on barbecues held on the beaches overlooking the crystal blue waters from one side and the volcanic mountain shining with its metals from the other side. For enjoying evenings in Delma, camps can be made on the beach or visitors may stay at Delma Hotel to view the marvelous sceneries. Delma is distinguished with its rich history of diving for pearls and the diversity of marine life, as well as its being a natural reserve, quiet resort, and park for Arabian wildlife that hosts fabulous and rare wild animals in its spacious territory. One of the most prominent landmarks of Delma Island is Delma Museum, which dates back to 1931. It was the private residence of the famous pearl merchant Mohammed bin Jassim Al-Marikhy. The Museum contains some artifacts, including fossils and tombs dating back to 7000 years as well as potteries dating back to the Mesopotamia Civilization, and ancient English coins and traditional equipment for pearl diving.
