"Therma" at the Gulf of Gera


"Therma" is located at the top of the Gulf of Gera and very accessible from the main road that leads out of Mytilene, at a distance of 6,5 km from the capital. The area is filled with olive trees and you have an astonishing view of the Gera gulf. Archaeological findings prove that they were used since ancient times.
During the years of the Turkish occupation they were renovated in the model of Turkish baths (hamam).
Recent renovations have developed the facilities for the hot spring waters to flow into two public, domed bathing-pools, one for men and the other for women. The indoor pools are comfortable, while on the sides there are suitable arched sections for steam baths and inhalation therapy.
There are changing rooms and showers available. The water is sub saline, carbonic and it contains chlorine, with a temperature of 39.5 °C (1.8 units of radioactivity). They are recommended for the treatment of abdominal pains and dropsy.
If the sea is undisturbed you may see some big glossy spots close to the point and SE. Those are semi-hot drinkable waters, fisherman used to drink, when thirsty, during hot summer days.

Στην ανατολική ακτή του κόλπου της Γέρας, σε απόσταση 6,5 χλμ. δυτικά της πόλης της Μυτιλήνης, βρίσκεται η ιαματική πηγή «Θέρμα» του κόλπου Γέρας.
Η περιοχή είναι κατάφυτη από ελαιώνες που σε συνδυασμό με την ατέλειωτη θέα του κόλπου, συνθέτουν ένα μαγευτικό τοπίο.
Πρόκειται για πολύ ωραία λουτρά. Tο νερό χύνεται ορμητικό στις δύο χωριστές χαβούζες (ανδρών και γυναικών) από μαρμάρινους κρουνούς, δημιουργώντας τις προϋποθέσεις για φυσικό υδρομασάζ.
H θερμοκρασία του είναι ιδανική και το μπάνιο κάτι περισσότερο από απολαυστικό.
Στις θεραπευτικές ενδείξεις περιλαμβανονται εκτός των αλλων : Ρευματισμοί, αρθρίτιδες, νευρασθένειες και χρόνιες εκβάσεις τραυμάτων.
Αν η θάλασσα είναι 'κάλμα', σε μικρή απόσταση από την ακτή και στα ΝΑ προσπαθήστε να διακρίνετε κάποια σημεία οπου το νερό ξεχωρίζει χαρακτηριστικά. Είναι πηγές γλυκού, πόσιμου νερού που οι ψαράδες έπιναν, οταν ξέμεναν τα ζεστά καλοκαίρια, τότε που δεν υπήρχαν τα πρακτικά πλαστικά μπουκάλια !
