Description: There is an unmet need for a cache to celebrate Bill Goulet putting his tractor on a stick. I recall when the tractor first appeared. It was quite a sight. Bright red. This could be a lesson in using environmentally safe paint in that the red faded and was a dull almost rust red after a few years. The tractor has since been repainted and looks pretty good again. The cache is down the street from the tractor so enjoy the view of the tractor on the way in and out of the dead end street. Park on the cul de sac since parking on a curve on Hwy 178 is not safe. There is a “path” leading part way to the cache. This path between the cul de sac and Hwy 178 is called Art’s path. Named for Art who jogs a mile for each beer he drinks. He has worn quite a path. Art can be thirsty at times.
Some additional information:
Here is a quote from the website http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/45409:
Just north of the intersection of Cty Hwy S and 150th Street (old Hwy 178) is a Farmall tractor sitting on top of a pole for no apparent reason, except to possibly keep it safe from the horse statues sitting beneath it.
Bill passed away in 2013 and here is a quote from his obituary:
Bill was a member of Notre Dame Church and was known for his red tractor on the pole in his yard. He also loved going to tractor shows and loved his tractor collection.
I understand this is one of the sights listed in Michael Feldman's book "Wisconsin Curiosities: Quirky Characters, Roadside Oddities & Other Offbeat Stuff".
The cache is a pill box up the road from the tractor on a stick.
