I grew up in Bethel Park on the border with South Park and spent many summer days playing on the slag dump behind the house where I lived. There were places to hike in the woods, ride bikes on the slag piles, and pick wild blackberries in the thistle. Many years later, living in Baldwin, my children would walk along the railroad tracks from the opposite direction and play on the same slag dump. The current property where the slag dump previously existed has now been developed into a residential neighborhood. There does not appear to be any location to place a cache that is either not on private property, requires access through private property, or is along the railroad right of way. After considering these options, it was decided that this location where the slag dump used to be would not be suitable for hiding a cache.
However, I still want to locate a cache in Bethel Park. Microbreweries are being established in many places in the Pittsburgh area including the North Side, Liberty Avenue, Mt. Lebanon, and many other municipalities in the region. There is now such a business in Bethel Park where I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s. Brewmasters are master craftsmen that specialize in the practical (and tasty) applications of chemistry, biology, and agriculture. Their products vary widely from clean, subtle, refreshing lagers to intensely flavored IPAs, to roasty, chocolaty stouts and porters, depending on the recipe and fermentation. Regardless of the style, the brewmaster's product is enjoyed by many residents of Bethel Park and the surrounding region. This location has been chosen to reflect the growth and change in Bethel Park since the days of playing on slag dumps to commercial development.
Nature has not been kind to this location and many trees are affected by wind. You will need to go around, or under, 3 trees that have fallen across the deer trail that leads to the location where the cache has been placed. The terrain has not changed; however, the difficulty has increased to get to GZ and into a position where the cache can be found.
Congratulations to georockers412 for the FTF soon after the cache was published.
