Geocache Description:

In the rural setting of Yinnar South – There’s a road with a biological name. There is a good place to park here off the main sealed road. The road reserve broadens out here into a nice (albeit small) pocket of remnant bush.

Bring your own pen.

Reward for FTF is a cute turtle key ring.

Here you will find a small cache that suits its natural environment.

Fauna:  noun. All of the animal life of any particular region or time. “from Wikipedia”

In Victoria, native fauna is protected by two key pieces of legislation

  1. Wildlife Act 1975 - legislation that protects all native fauna from harm, being kept or being traded without a permit or licence.
  2. Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988 - legislation for the conservation of threatened species and communities and for the management of potentially threatening processes.

Macro fauna in this area commonly consists of wombats, kangaroos, echidnas, koalas, and possums.  Many years ago, I was delighted one day to discover at this site, a ringed-tailed possum drey.  The work required to make this drey would have impressed any crafts person.  Dreys are basically possum nests.  They look like a large enclosed bird’s nest made of bark, leaves and small twigs tangled together to make a very comfortable and cosy home. Keep your eye out for these works of art when you’re out in the bush!
