Each featured trail has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. Some of these caches are located at future trail sites and some are located along existing trails. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!

This cache is for the Shawnee Mission Park South Shore Trail. This natural trail may be the oldest and continually used trail in Johnson County. This is a 3 mile long one-way trail following along the south shore of beautiful Shawnee Mission Park Lake. The trail runs from the Walnut Grove-Shelter 10 parking lot at the east end of the lake to the Shelter 8 parking lot near the dam. You can start from either end but will need to backtrack as it is not a loop. This is a well worn natural trail that cross a few intermediate streams so it will be muddy after rains. It also crosses through the dog off leash area. This beautiful trail travels through hardwood forest the entire distance. This makes fall a very popular time to enjoy a hike on this trail. Shawnee Mission Park also features a beach, marina, disc golf course, Theatre In The Park, and other trails including paved and mountain bike plus lots of geocaching. You can find this camo lock-n-lock about a mile down the trail from the west end. As also with this kind of trail the good ole Kansas PIT’s can be found. Happy hiking and happy caching.
