Geocache Description:

One-room schools were commonplace throughout rural portions of Pipestone County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

District 71 was approved on November 29, 1902. The District schoolhouse was known as the Pahl school. It was located on the NW corner of SW1/2 of Section 27. The water had to be hauled to the school from a neighboring farm, The school closed during consolidation. An action was held February 1, 1954 and the building was moved to local farmsite in Section 28, across from the actual site of the school house. The building was used as a chicken house. Students were transported into Ruthton. In 2012 the schoolhouse still stands on Section 28 quarter mile south of school house location.

For more information about all the country schools located in Pipestone County please feel free to visit the Pipestone County Museum. This is a small container just holding a log, so bring your own writing tool. A TOTT may also be needed.
