Geocache Description:

The second in a series for special members of our family - the dogs! A small cache located in the fields beyond the woods that are part of the larger Godolphin Estate giving an excellent outlook of Godolphin Hill and Tregonning Hill

The Godolphin Estate is a National Trust property situated in Godolphin Cross and originally came into the ownership of the National Trust in 1999. The Estate is the former seat of the Dukes of Leeds and the Earls of Godolphin.

Godolphin Hill provides views over west Cornwall with more than 400 recorded archaeological features ranging from Bronze Age enclosures to 19th-century mine buildings.

The house and gardens were acquired by the National Trust in August 2007. The house is approached from the north and consists of three wings around a square courtyard and the front wall of a further building on the south side. The main buildings originally stood to the south of this with two projecting wings. The 16th century gardens are worth a visit and are one of the most important historical gardens in Europe.

Godolphin Woods are a part of the wider Godolphin Estate and are popular with dog walkers with footpaths throughout as the area was originally part of the Godolphin mine. Do not stray from the paths when walking though the woods as the whole area is riddled with pits and shafts. If you are only visiting the woods there is a lay-by at the entrance which gives good access to the location but if you are planning a visit to the House and Gardens or the Hill, it is worth parking in the car park off the main road.

Oscar has spent many hours walking all the paths around Godolphin Woods to say nothing of walking up and around Godolphin and Tregonning Hills. When you have found the cache take a moment to enjoy the outlook!

This cache has been placed with kind permission of the National Trust

Please put the log back into the resealable bag to keep it as dry as possible – thank you.

Enjoy!
