Geocache Description:

A cache bringing a bit of little known Mankato history.

This is the most notable of what remains of one of Mankato's several early breweries(also the largest and most successful).  The Victorian style house nearby was built by the founder, Wilhelm Bierbauer. The Bierbauer Brewery was built in 1856. Some of the original foundation can still be found along the hillside. Bierbauer and his brother fled the revolutions in Germany in 1848 and were among the founding residents of Mankato. When Prohibition hit the brewery was closed. In 1933 a group of local businessmen reopened the brewery and renamed it Mankato Brewing Co.  The restarted brewery sold Kato Beer until 1962.
