Geocache Description:

One day I was out hiking the labyrinthine trails of the Monocacy Natural Resource Area, and all of a sudden I happened upon an old stone kiln!  It was such a delightful and unexpected surprise, I wanted to share it with all who are willing to make the difficult treck through the trails and over the multiple stream crossings... what better way to do that than with a geocache!  I am proud to make this my first hide.

If you look on the map, you will notice that the cache location is closer to Doctor Belt Rd than it is to the listed parking coordinates.  I have driven down this road, and it's actually just a driveway for a few old houses... there is no public parking area, and I do not know if the property owners would appreciate folks in their driveway, but out of respect let's assume not.  I did not ask them, nor do I intend to... the point of this cache is to have an adventure hike through the Monocacy Natural Resource Area.  Please park at the listed parking coordinates.  The trails in this area are not marked or maintained, but enough folks traverse them that it is always obvious where the trails are (even in the snow, as I found out when placing this cache).  There is only one trail that can be taken from the parking area, but then it will start branching out, and it is up to you to figure out how to get to the cache.  Check the hint if you want some advice (the hint is more or less a giveaway as to how to find the cache, but it's still a challenging hike even when you know where you are going.  It's a couple miles from the parking area, and if I recall, one must cross 3 streams on the way.  If you are not extremely nimble, you will need to wade across the streams, but they are not deep or wide, nor are they dangerous by any stretch of the imagination.  That's part of the fun!  I placed this cache with the help of my young adventuring partner, Master David Link: he is 9 years old and we had tons of fun finding our way to the kiln.  The trails can be fairly overgrown in the spring and summer, so WEAR BUG SPRAY to keep the ticks away.  One more note: if you keep hiking on the trail that passes the kiln, you will find the ruins of an old farmstead that once occupied the area... pretty cool stuff if you ask me.  I hope you enjoy the cache, but mostly I hope you enjoy the adventure that is just getting to it! There is a fancy handmade marble orb waiting for the FTF cacher... I only request that you take a pic of the marble at the cache site, should you choose to snag it.  Peace fellow cachemates.
