Geocache Description:

A micro hidden in a part of the community's past history. Most people drive by this historic piece of history and don't even realize it is there or the part it played in the community's development.

Kachina Village was originally designed in the 70's as a retirement and Summer community. Later, after the developer was forced to leave, it slowly became an established community for full-time residents. The developer had planned a golf course and a recreational facility that is now long since gone. The developer got greedy and began cutting the size of the lots down to roughly a third of an acre. His greed angered many and before he was tarred and feathered, he skipped town in the middle of the night. Many of these objects the cache is hidden in, before Coconino County had adopted GPS for defining property locations, had set these markers throughout the community as a reference point to know locations throughout the community. This cache is one of those markers. This micro is here at one of these locations.

FYI: The neighborhood has retired police and firefighters on this street. Using stealth is recommended. Please place the cache back exactly as found.

FYI: People wanted a bit more of the history of the local area so I guess I will be somewhat more verbose. The developer skipped town due to a moment where he needed to - before he was run out of town on a rail - tarred and feathered. The lots on the south side of Kachina Village are much larger that the lots further north. The lots down south are about an acre and the lots as you go further north are about 1/3 of an acre. He figured he could cut them down in size and make more money. The north side is where summer houses - trailers - and RVs would be placed for the residents of the warmer areas of that state would stay. Where the new Dollar General store is used to be the old clubhouse and visitor cabins. The clubhouse and swimming pool were all destroyed and now all traces of them removed since the new store is situated where they used to be. The older visitor cabins are where the Village Land Shoppe offices are now. They were still here in the early 1990's before being demolished. The water department used to be run by the Home Owners Association [HRO] here before if went belly up and the county was forced to take over. There were some crazy rules here like no fences so that wildlife could roam freely thru the community. There are many "Open Spaces" here where the land is owned by the county. Suicide Hill - where all the sledding takes place - and much of the area that looks like fairways for golf are just what they were set up for. There was supposed to be a 9 hole golf course here and that fell apart when the developer and the whole concept fell apart. The stone building in the meadow that you can see from Tovar Trail and the freeway [I-17] used to be a well site that pumped water thru an old waterline to the City of Flagstaff.
