Geocache Description:

On April 25, 1915 the Australian New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula against fierce opposition of Ottoman Empire forces.  The campaign ended eight months later as a stalemate, after more than 11,000 ANZAC casualties. The campaign had a great impact on Australians and New Zealanders at home, and soon April 25th became a date to remember the endurance, resilience, and sacrifice of the ANZAC forces.  Since the end of World War II, ANZAC Day has been celebrated as a day to remember all those killed in all the military operations in which the countries have been involved.

Families of ANZAC forces sent parcels from home to the soldiers in Gallipoli which included foods that could withstand the long sea voyage without spoilage.  The most famous of these foods was the ANZAC biscuit, a cookie containing oatmeal, cocoanut, sugar and flour, but no eggs.  Even today, Australians and New Zealanders make ANZAC bikkies for special occasions.  Ask any Australian woman about ANZAC bikkies, and she will offer you her recipe for the best ANZAC bikkies in the nation.  If you aren't familiar with ANZAC biscuits, come to celebrate with us and you may try these tasty pastries.

Everyone is welcome.   Be sure to bring your appetite, your geocaching stories, and trackables to share.
