Geocache Description:

This cache is one of a series of easy-to-find caches along the beautiful Warhill Sports Complex multi-use trail commemorating those who influenced the English settlement of James City County, and by extension, the United States. The trail is 3.5 miles long, but has many exit and entrance locations, which you can find here.

Bartholomew Gilbert named the Chesepeake Bay. Walter Raliegh's nephew and friend of Bartholomew Gosnold, Gilbert made many forays to the new world. In 1603, Raliegh commissioned him to sail west to check on the Roanoke colony. Gilbert overshot the Carolina barrier islands and landed on the interior shores of the Chesepeake, which he named from the native "K’tchisipik." He and two of his crew died in a skirmish with natives. The rest of his crew made it out and back to England safely. You can read more about Gilbert & Gosnold's adventures.

There's a clue for GC5WHK9 in this cache.

Yes - you have to walk through there. There are a couple breaks in the long grass, but I still wore long pants and bug spray when prepping and placing the cache. The caches are set up to be easy for you to find. If your coordinates indicate that a cache is in a tree, please check the foot of the tree first, then along the trunk. Caches will never be out along the branches or in shrubs or bushes. If it takes more than a minute or two to find the cache, please check the hint. The trail is open from 7 am until sunset.

Thanks to James City County for keeping up such a beautiful trail and letting us cache here!
