Geocache Description:

One-room schools were commonplace throughout rural portions of Pipestone County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries

District 48 was approved July 27, 1885. The first schoolhouse was built on the north central edge of Section 8, but was moved the northeast corner of Section 7 on land donated by C.P. Fedderson in 1894. In 1954 District was consolidated with District 583 (then District 1) of Pipestone. The 16 x 34 school building, fuel tank and two outside toilets were sold at action for $293.70 on July 11, 1957. The school building has been torn down

Information about country schools in Pipestone County can be found at the county’s museum. This is a small container just holding a log, so bring your own writing tool. A TOTT may also be needed.
