Geocache Description:

One-room schools were commonplace throughout rural portions of Pipestone County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

District 17 schoolhouse was first located on Section 30, but later moved to Section 32 on land owned by Mike Geary. The district remained in operation until it was consolidated with District 582 in Jasper. An action was held on January 27, 1955 and the 18 x 26 schoolhouse was sold to Selmar Johnson to be used for storage on his farm.

Information about country schools in Pipestone County can be found at the county’s museum. This is a small container just holding a log, so bring your own writing tool. A TOTT may also be needed.
