Geocache Description:

One-room schools were commonplace throughout rural portions of Pipestone County in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

This district was approved on November 15, 1889. This schoolhouse was located on Section 32. In 1954, Disrtict 57 was described as a merged district and remained open. When closed, the students were transported into Pipestone. An auction was held July 10, 1957 and the school building was moved to the Louis Lange property. The auction consisted of the 30 x 18 building, two toilets, an oil burner and oil tank. The school building was sold for $383.60. In 2001 the Lange property was owned by Michael Fruechte and schoolhouse was torn down.

Information about country schools in Pipestone County can be found at the county’s museum. This is a small container just holding a log, so bring your own writing tool. A TOTT may also be needed.
