DIRECTIONS: Proceed down Enterprise Road. After Toll Gate, turn to left towards shamva. From toll gate proceed 100km (Tar Rd), through shamva town to Madziva Mine and Teachers Training College. At Madziwa mine turn right. Proceed approx 100m through shopping centre, Turn to left after flee market Proceed 150m, reach tar road, turn left Proceed 12km(Tar Rd) to Umfurudzi Park Gate Park Office 8km from Gate (Dust Rd) .Access by light motor vehicle sedan
CAMPING: There are 4 permanently tented camps along the Umfurudzi River. The camps consist of large tent with a Queen Bed and a single bed. Small dome tent with two single beds. All linen is provided. The camp also has a kitchen containing all crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, a gas stove and small fridge. The camps are serviced daily in the morning. Additional services will be charged separately.
All camps have Zesa and running water.
There are 3 campsites along the Umfurudzi River, that are lawned and have Zesa and running water. These campsites cater for the camper who brings their own tents, catering equipment and bedding. Ablution facilities available with Hot and cold showers and toilets. Servicing is charged separately.
There are also 4 budget camp sites with ablution facilities, picnic benches and braai areas on the lawns surrounding the park office. Feel free to pitch tents and create a homely environment under the trees.
Wilderness camping is also available upon request, these sites do not have any facilities. Sites are available throughout the Park. Please enquire with the Park Offices.
Noteable sites are along the Umfurudzi river, Pot Holes, Old Hunting Camp, Dam 8, Beacon Hill, Look out point, Ruanga River, Dam 11, Chizinga, secret pools, Castle Rock, southern hills and Rock paintings.
SWIMMING: The rivers in Umfurudzi have crocodiles, however swimming is allowed. Be very cautious and keep away from deep pools.
During the rainy season between November and April, many of the small rivers flow, the water is clear and clean, and perfect for swimming. Small fish (barbs) are in abundance in these rivers, and remove dead skin from the body.
Please do not swim in swollen rivers after rain storms as they are susceptible to flash flooding.
