Yarramalong Long Way Up There Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Alles&J: Unfortunately this cache was first lost, then replaced, then gone again, then found in WA, then replaced again super securely, then lid left off and cache got wet and now fire has gone through the area. They say a well-placed cache won't need much maintenance, so that would mean this cache has not been placed well. It's still a top spot to visit, and we may consider placing a nano on the wind mill instead [:P] Thanks to those that enjoyed their visit and tree climb - sorry to those who didn't enjoy this cache. Alles&J

Geocache Description:

The Condamine River, part of the Balonne catchment that is part of the Murray-Darling Basin, drains the northern portion of the Darling Downs. The river rises on Mount Superbus, South East Queensland's highest peak, on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range, approximately 100 kilometres from the east coast of Queensland, and then flows north west across the Darling Downs, then west.

The catchment area covers 13,292 square kilometres.

Water from the Condamine River is used for town water supply as well as irrigation. Apart from Leslie Dam which supplies the town of Warwick, other water storage facilities on the Condamine River include the Yarramalong Weir, Lemon Tree Weir, Loudoun Weir, Tipton Weir, Talgai Weir and the Cecil Plains Weir.

Located on the bank of the Condamine River Yarramalong Weir is a great place to camp for self-contained campers who love to relax, get out on their boat, swim and fish.

Situated 30km east of Millmerran on Yarramalong Road off the Millmerran-Leyburn Road (also accessible via Fysch Road, Pampas).

There are no fees to visit or camp!! Maximum stay is 3 days.

Facilities include:

Picnic tables.
Toilets.
Boat ramp is on eastern side of the weir.
Open fire places.

The cache is located along a dry weather/ 4x4 track only towards the back part of the free camping area. Or it's about a 10min walk from the toilets. It is also up a tree! Please note the difficulty/terrain rating. A stepladder won't help you much (although it may help get you started).

Happy hunting, and we look forward to hearing of your adventures!
