Congratulations Lodidodger FTF!!!
Notice: The attribute “Dangerous Area” is active on all these RGT caches.
If you are familiar with the trail, you understand this is based more on fear than on reality, however, the potential for danger does exist. This is an isolated stretch of trail with few exit routes, with BART’s high fences on one side and property fences on the other. For the fear factor and possible danger factor, all caches in this string are listed as difficulty 2.0.
Thanks to Pete who is a geocacher that is now no longer here I wanted to keep he's cache alive.
On this stretch of trail you may be reminded of Simon and Garfunkel’s song, “The Boxer.”
…Running scared
Laying low, seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know
Lie-la-lie...
You may see evidence of such here. Mostly the folks you see are friendly as the folks you encounter anywhere else.
That said, the Richmond Greenway Trail is part of a network of trails under the wing of the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy. In fact, their website lists the Richmond Greenway Trail as among the TOP TEN TRAILS IN CALIFORNIA! Here’s what they say:
“Though only a short trail at three miles long, the Richmond Greenway represents the positive transformation of a railroad corridor that sat unused in the heart of the city of Richmond for more than 25 years. The Richmond Greenway provides 32 new acres of active open space in a densely populated, underserved community with few recreational opportunities and scarce green space.
“What makes it so great? The local community. A model of how community organizations can work together to invest local residents in the development of a public space, Richmond Greenway, Urban Tilth, Groundwork Richmond, Rich City Rides and Pogo Park have used free community events, working parties and other engagement strategies to make the Richmond Greenway a genuine gathering place.” “
The only thing missing was geocaches. Not anymore. Enjoy your ride into a changing Richmond. Like Emeryville and San Pablo, Richmond’s reputation is transforming into a family and service-centered community where like-minded folks take care of and pride in their city.
