Geocache Description:

Will soon begin archiving this series.

Johnson County Park & Recreation District (JCPRD) is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2015. The District is a leader in its field providing the community with top quality parks and recreational opportunities while being responsible stewards of all our resources. The District’s contributions to the personal lives of Johnson County’s citizens have earned the District local appreciation and national acclaim. Each year the District records more than 7 million park visitors and over 2 million recreation participations in over 4,000 programs. Their slogan is “What do YOU do for fun? If you are reading this, one answer is probably Geocaching. The District is planning many special activities throughout the year. With that in mind, and with the District’s approval we bring you 60 JCPRD caches, one for each of their 60 years. This series highlights the District’s parklands with 15 different caches listed below. The outstanding parks and recreational resources managed by the District are among Johnson County’s most popular and valuable community assets. The tremendous popularity of their parks and the wide variety of recreational opportunities they provide is a reflection of the vital role the District plays in making Johnson County one of the most livable communities in America. Each park has a cache with a code in it. Collect all 15 and you will have the coordinates to this series final. Some of these caches are located at future parklands and some are located within existing parks. Enjoy these gems of the county and happy caching, but most of all have FUN!

This is a bonus cache for the JCPRD 60 series. This site was announced as a new park location during the work on this series. The owners of the Meadowbrook Golf and Country Club plan to redevelop about one third of the course into townhomes, luxury apartments, senior living, single family homes and a boutique hotel. The rest, around 85 acres, would be developed into a park owned and operated by JCPRD. This would be the first park for JCPRD in the northeast part of the county. The planning process will be ongoing in 2015, but early plans for the park include retaining the lakes and adding walking trails. The existing clubhouse could be transformed into a Community Center. While there is no official name for the park yet, therefor the cache name, it is being referred to as Meadowbrook. Since the club is closed parking could be a problem, the parking lot is marked as closed, but it seems quiet and you might be OK especially if you avoid working hours as some staff are still there. There is also a church lot nearby. The cache is located on public right-away near the sidewalk and not inside the fencing of the club. You will be looking for a very utilitarian cache that is well disguised. It is along a busy street so cover yourself as you cover this cache and get ready to enjoy a new JCPRD park and more geocaching opportunities.
