LA DONCELLA Y EL PASTOR
Cerca de este lugar existía una antigua villa romana, transformada en casa señorial durante la Edad Media. Perteneció a una noble familia toledana que pasaba largas temporadas en la zona, donde los cultivos en las fértiles vegas del rio y el pastoreo de sus prados mantenían ocupadas a numerosas familias de campesinos que trabajaban en la villa y vivían en sus alrededores.
Los señores tenían una única hija a la que pretendían casar con un joven toledano de una familia adinerada con el fin de aumentar su rango social, pero la doncella, que no lo amaba, sufría y aplazaba todo lo que podía la decisión de aceptar su triste destino.
Era primavera y el río aun llevaba buen caudal. La doncella, que había bajado paseando por la orilla, se paró a descansar en el puente. Mientras escuchaba el fluir del agua y el trino de los pájaros empezó a oír un sonido distinto que captó su atención, eran las agudas campanillas de un rebaño de cabras que se acercaban para cruzar el puente, y detrás de ellas un joven y guapo campesino las dirigía.
Primero fueron sus ojos los que hablaron, luego sus sonrisas cómplices las que precedieron a sus primeras palabras de amor. La doncella pasaba los atardeceres buscando cualquier pretexto para ir al puente a esperarle, hasta que fueron la noche, la luna y el río los que presenciaban sus encuentros clandestinos. Cuando su amor creció y se convirtió en algo imparable como el río, decidieron huir y construir su propio destino, diferente al que sus padres le tenían preparado sin contar con su corazón.
El río, testigo de sus encuentros quiso ayudarles a escapar, cambiando su curso y dejando sin utilidad el puente, único punto de unión entre ambas orillas. Símbolo del amor entre el pastor y la doncella, fue quedando olvidado y enterrado por el paso del tiempo, pero sus piedras aun esconden los restos de aquel amor prohibido que consiguió superar todos los obstaculos.
THE MAIDEN AND THE SHEPHERD
Near this place existed an ancient Roman villa, transformed into a manor house during the Middle Ages. It belonged to a noble family from Toledo which spent long periods in the area. The crops in the fertile plains of the river and grazing on the extensive lawns kept busy to numerous families of peasants who worked in the villa and lived in the surrounding area.
The owners had a single daughter and wanted her to marry with a young man from a wealthy family from Toledo to increase their social rank, but the young maid did not love him. She was sad and she delayed all she could the decision to accept their sad fate.
It was spring ,the maid, who had walked along the edge of the river, stopped to rest on the bridge. While listening to the flow of water and birdsong he began to hear a different sound that caught his attention, it were the cute bells of a herd of goats who came to cross the bridge, and behind them a handsome young shepherd.
First there were their eyes who spoke, then their knowing smiles preceded his first words of love. The maid expected for sunsets to looking for any excuse to go to the bridge to wait the shepherd...until it were the night, the moon and the river which witnessed their clandestine meetings. When their love grew and became unstoppable as the river, they decided to flee and build their own destiny, different than the one that her parents had prepared her without listening her heart.
The river, who witnessed their meetings, wanted to help them escape and changed its course leaving useless the bridge, the only link between the two sides. Symbol of love between the shepher and the Maiden, it was being forgotten and buried over time, but its stones even hide the remains of that forbidden love that managed to overcome all obstacles.
EL CACHÉ Y EL ENTORNO
La historia de la doncella y el pastor es inventada, pero es cierto que debió existir una villa romana cerca, como así lo demostraría el hallazgo de un busto romano y de restos de un suelo de mosaicos en Villamiel de Toledo, a escasos 4 kilómetros de distancia.
El puente que se describe en la historia se encuentra casi enterrado y solo es visible el tablero y la parte superior de sus tres arcos centrales. Es de ladrillo y mortero, de época medieval, aunque seguramente aprovechando una construcción más antigua. Se encuentra al lado de la autovía A-40, en la salida hacia Villamiel de Toledo y Fuensalida, junto al curso bajo del río Guadarrama.
Hoy el río presenta varios puentes en un espacio muy reducido, y sus aguas no son tan cristalinas como debieron serlo en otra época, pero aun se puede observar un buen bosque de galería donde las saucedas, choperas, olmedas y fresnedas se disponen en bandas a ambos lados de la orilla en función de su requerimiento hídrico y de su tolerancia frente a las inundaciones.
Para llegar al lugar: salir de la A-40 direccion Villamiel. Encontraremos varias rotondas y desvios, las seguimos hasta cruzar el río y encontrar una rotonda con varias salidas: una nos lleva a Villamiel y Fuensalida, otra a Rielves por la N-403, otra nos devuelve de nuevo a la A-40 (Torrijos) y otra a una antigua carretera que no tiene uso, en esa salida podemos apartarnos y buscar un sitio para aparcar.

CACHE AND SURROUNDING AREA
The story of the maiden and the shepherd is not real, but certainly there must have been a Roman villa nearby, as demonstrated by the discovery of a Roman bust and remains of a mosaic floor in Villamiel de Toledo, only 4 kilometers from distance.
The bridge described in the story it's almost buried and it's only visible the board and the top of its three central arches. It is built of brick and mortar, Medieval, but surely taking advantage of an older building. It is located next to the A-40 highway along the lower reaches of the Guadarrama river.
Today the river has several bridges in a very small space, and its waters are not as clear as they should be in another time, but you can still see a good gallery forest where willow, poplar, elm and ash groves are arranged in bands both sides of the banks according to their water requirement and its tolerance to flooding.
To get there: Exit the A-40 direction ¨Villamiel de Toledo¨ and ¨Fuensalida¨. Find several roundabouts and detours, follow up to cross the river and find a roundabout with several exits: the first takes us to Villamiel and Fuensalida, the second to Rielves by the N-403, the third brings us back to the A-40 (Torrijos ) and the fourth to an old road that has no use, in that we depart and seek out a place to park without disturbing.
