This series tells you a few stories about incredible or strange events in and around Dudelange. The sagas and legends are originally published in German. We try to show you the places where these stories could have taken place. The areas changed, but the stories are still remaining.

Due to some distance problems with other caches in the surroundings it wasn’t possible to place some caches at the place where the stories took place. So don’t be too disappointed.

You'll find the story in the listing, but to find the cache, you first have to solve the riddle and sometimes, you have to read the story to understand how to crack the riddle.

The checker tells you more about the Code for the Bonus-Caches. Solve the riddles from A to M for Bonus 1 and the riddles from N to Z for Bonus 2. Then do the nice Multi Cache GC5P7RM to find the formulas for both Bonus.

Das verhexte Haar.

Ein Schäfer aus der Vogtei Greeten von Budersberg ließ sich einst die Haare schneiden und warf sie in den Hausflur. Bald nachher zeigte sich eine weiche, kropfartige Geschwulst an seinem linken Knie, so dass der Mann nicht mehr gehen konnte und sich mühsam an einer Krücke fortschleppen musste. Alle Heilungsversuche erwiesen sich als erfolglos. Da ließ er die Geschwulst aufschneiden und sieh da! es befand sich ein Päckchen Haare darin und der Schäfer erkannte, dass es seine eigenen Haare waren, die er vor kurzem hatte abschneiden lassen und weggeworfen hatte. Diesen Streich hatte eine Hexe ihm gespielt, die damals im Hause übernachtete. Hätte er auf die Haare gespien, so hätte die Hexe diese Gewalt nicht über ihn gehabt. Seither sind die Leute in der ganzen Gegend klüger geworden und pflegen auf die abgeschnittenen Haare zu spucken, ehe sie dieselben wegwerfen.

Les cheveux ensorcelés.

Un berger du baillage Greeten de Budersberg se laissa un jour couper les cheveux et les jeta dans le couloir de sa maison. Peu de temps après apparut une grosseur molle, comme un goitre à son genoux gauche, de sorte qu’il ne pouvait plus marcher et se déplaçait que péniblement à l’aide d’une béquille. Toutes les méthodes de guérison restaient sans succès. C’est alors qu’il se laissa percer la tumeur et voyez-vous ce qui s’y trouvait un paquet de cheveux et le berger reconnut que c’étaient ses cheveux qu’il avait fait couper il y a peu de temps et qu’il avait jeté. Ce sort lui avait été lancé par une sorcière, qui à ce moment avait passé la nuit dans sa maison. Si au moment de jeter ses cheveux il avait craché dessus, la sorcière n’aurait eu aucun pouvoir sur lui. A partir de ce jour, les gens des alentours sont devenus plus prudents et crachent sur les cheveux coupés avant de les jeter.

The bewitched hair

A shepherd from the bailiwick Greeten of Budershill once got a haircut and threw the hair in the corridor. Soon after a soft, goiter-like tumor appeared on his left knee. Therefore the man was unable to walk anymore and had to drag himself on a crutch. All attempts at healing have been unsuccessful. Therefore, he let the tumor be cut open, lo and behold! There was a package of hair in it! The shepherd recognized it as his own hairs that he had recently cut off and thrown away. A witch had played him that joke which, at this time, spend the night at his home. If he had spit on the hair, the witch wouldn’t have power over him. Since that time, the local people, grown wiser always spit on the cut off hair first, before throwing them away.
