Many years ago when this land was a bit wilder and the water tables a bit higher, this area was ruled by the Dread Pirate Erickson. Since the area is a bit landlocked, the Dread Pirate Erickson didn’t have a fancy schooner. He had a rowboat. But it was a very nice rowboat, everyone said so. He would stand in the bow of his rowboat and command his men, Ben and Jerry, to row this way and that way. They dutifully attacked, robbed and pillaged any unfortunate, lost or weary travelers who wandered too close to the soggy kingdom of the Dread Pirate Erickson. In this way, they acquired, over many years, a small treasure.
As the years passed, civilization began to encroach on the territory of the Dread Pirate Erickson. Both the swamp and the amount of pillaging began to dry up. The pirates decided to take a gap year. Jerry planned to work with barrel horses. Ben planned to work with cart horses. The Dread Pirate Erickson planned to have a look at the vast oceans he had heard so much about. So the treasure needed to be hidden safely in wait for their return. They picked a lonely spot in the center of the bogs ruled by the Dread Pirate Erickson and laid the treasure to rest. And each went his own way, with plans to meet in a year and divide up the hard earned spoils.
But none of the pirates ever returned and the treasure still waits.
