Geocache Description:

Elba Park is an attractive new park which is quickly establishing itself as a haven for wildlife as well as a popular place for people to enjoy the natural world. This family friendly multi-cache will take you around the park to all of the sculptures that are in the park and you will see some great views of Penshaw Monument and the surrounding area.

In order to find the cache you need to answer the following questions, once you have the answers to the questions put them into your GPS/App as a waypoint.

A : You should be standing in front of the Welcome to Elba Park wooden sign (left of the path not the notice board), have a read of the sign and count the number of photos on it then subtract 1, this will be A

B : N 54 51.162 W 001 30.345
From the sign, walk back out of the park towards the roundabout and follow the footpath to the left past the picnic tables. Just before you get to the tunnel turn left along the gravel path. Once you reach the coordinates you should be looking at the Waggonway and Up In Smoke sculpture. This stone sculpture was commissioned from renowned Wearside artist Colin Wilbourn.
Wooden waggonway’ is a scaled representation of the waggonway discovered at the site in 1995, mounted on a horizontal stone slab, showing the layout of the surviving timbers beneath the ground. The upright section, named ‘Up in Smoke’, shows the site's industrial landscape at its height, with colliery buildings in the foreground and in the background, the Lambton Cokeworks billowing smoke.
Count the number of chimneys that have smoke coming out of them in the Up in Smoke section, then divide that number by 3. This will be B

C : N 54 51.237 W001 29.977
From the Up in Smoke sculpture follow the gravel path until the tarmac path and turn left following the blue arrows until you get to the Pick Axe bridge.
Count how many pick axes there are in one "section" of the bridge then minus one, this will be C. Don't count all the pick axes on the entire bridge, well unless you want to ;)

D : N54 51.282 W001 30.008
From the pick axe bridge, come back on yourself and take the path to the right, follow this path until you reach the Underground sculpture which was commissioned from Colin Wilbourn. This memorial remembers the 127 pitmen who are known to have lost their lives at Lambton
Look around this memorial and divide the number of stone seats by 2, this will give you D

E and F : N54.51.269 W001 30.107
From the Underground structure follow the path up to the left until you get to the wrought iron sculptures created by artist Craig Knowles in the style of miners’ banners. These banners were designed by children from four local schools (St. Michaels, Burnside, Shiney Row, Dubmire).
Locate the Dubmire one, and add the numbers that are on the miners lamp. This will give you E.
Locate the St Michaels banner. F is the number of balloons minus the number of musical notes.

The cache is located at N54 51.ABC W001 30.DEF To help you if you add your answers up, A+B+C+D+E+F, you will get a total of 23. If they don't equal 23 you need to check your answers.
