Geocache Description:

Although nature commences with reason and ends in experience it is necessary for us to do the opposite, that is to commence with experience and from this to proceed to investigate the reason.

Leonardo Da Vinci

Leonardo Da Vinci was not only a painter; he was also a musician, architect, inventor and as only recently discovered a geocacher. He placed his first cache in Florence, Italy when he moved there at age 15 to work as an artist apprentice. The detailed drawings of this first cache were discovered by the cache owner during a trip to Europe in 2007. It has taken almost eight years for the cache to be reproduced exactly as it was conceived by Leonardo. The cache was painstaking recreated as the Da Vinci Hide.

Find the cache and discover the drawings, the materials involved in constructing the cache and the actual process of building the cache.

Once you are at the coordinates, have a seat and get ready to follow the directions below to the cache's location, your GPS is now useless. Remember the GPS did not exist in Da Vinci's day.

  • Look due south - 180° and take 20 steps in that direction to enter the cache's hiding area.
  • Once through the double entrance - take 22 steps at 130° SE.
  • Take a bearing of 60° for five steps and put on your climbing boots.
  • Take a bearing of 350° for eleven steps and take a one step break.
  • Continue your climb for another 14 steps. You are nearing your prize.
  • Turn to your right 90° and take 19 steps. Look to your right for the number 800, proceed to that location. Now count down 1,2,3 to view your prize.
The cache is accessible only five days a week. From 10 - 7 on Tues/Thurs, 9 - 5 on Wed/Fri and 9 - 3 on Sat. Once discovered it is simple enough to retrieve and open the container and sign the log.

The initial cache hide contains five travel bugs and a FTF prize. After signing the log and swapping any swag or travel bugs, please carefully restore everything as it was found.
