FR : Ce monument, a été érigé en 1992 pour commémorer l'arrivée des 20 000 premiers soldats américains à Nouméa. Pendant plusieurs années, près d'un million de soldats Américains séjournèrent sur le Caillou durant la seconde guerre mondiale.
La Nouvelle Calédonie, térritoire de la France Libre, représente alors pour les Américains un point d’appui d’une importance stratégique. L'ile est sur la route de l’Australie, elle idéalement située pour empêcher les Japonais d’avancer vers le sud. Elle offre également des infrastructures correctes, comme un bon réseau routier, 2 aérodromes, un port à grande capacité d’accueil en plus d’un climat agréable par rapport aux autres îles environnantes.
La capitale, Nouméa se réjouit de la présence Américaine, qui pendant plusieurs années fera le bonheur des habitants et des commerces. Les denrées typiques des USA comme le Coca-Cola, le chocolat, les patés californiens, les cigarettes... circulent dans les ménages. Des liens se créés entre les Calédoniens et les soldats Américains. Des mariages sont célébrés et beaucoup de femmes Calédonniennes suivront leur mari aux Etats-Unis.
