Altgeld Hall is actually one of five "Altgeld's Castles" at Illinois universities, named after their originator/inspiration, John Peter Altgeld. All are built in the Gothic Revival style. UIUC's Altgeld Hall is known for its strange, disjointed half floors in its design, fueling the rumor that all 5 Castles can be assembled into one large building.
