This route has been laid out to take in the best of Badminston Common. This is a mixed area of scrub, heathland and woodland giving it an incredibly diverse amount of flora and fauna. The area is surprisingly good for nightjars and Dartford warblers as well as various types of raptors. The whole area falls inside the Cadland Estate who have very kindly given their permission for the area to be used for geocaching. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in the local times past to check out the history of the Cadland Estate.
One of the reasons we chose Badminston Common for a series of caches is that whilst it is close to an oil refinery, the old Fawley power station and gravel excavation works it is still a Lovely place to walk. At times you wouldn’t know any industry at all was going on around you. Also this was another of Mr TF’s playgrounds growing up so it felt right to set a small series here to showcase this area.
The overall Difficulty/Terrain rating for this series is 2/3. The only reason I have rated the terrain so high is due to the nature of the slopes and path conditions around #4, which can be very wet and muddy being at the bottom of a hill next to a stream and do entail a relatively steep(ish) slope both up and down.
