Geocache Description:

A peaceful walk of just over 4 miles in the upper Shibden Valley, with a variety of caches and stunning scenery along the way. It is mostly along well used tracks. You will need to bring your own pen and a pair of tweezers could come in useful.

There are 15 caches in the series. #1-Beginning or End. #2-Paddock Rd/Addersgate. #3-What a view! #4-A Bank deposit. #5-Multi-trunk tree #6-Hard Rock Cafe. #7-You've got stile. #8-Rusty. #9-New track. #10-Branch out #11-Tree Tunnel. #12-Theraphosidae? #13-Bridle path. #14-The gate.#15-Point to point. The walk is done in a sort of figure of eight hence the name and could easily be split into two short walks. A small parking area is available at the start of the walk at Cowling Lane, Northowram. Figure8walk #1 could be found at the beginning or end of the walk but is placed at the beginning to aid directions for parking. Walk along Paddock Road in the direction of Addersgate Lane where #2 is located, this will give many a geocacher a déjà vu moment with thoughts of Holly & Ivy. Continue along Addersgate Lane and along a track, after some distance there is a track down to the left, ignore this and continue straight ahead, you will eventually come to a surprise feature, a narrow dark tunnel which can have quite a slippery stone path after wet weather. Go through the aforementioned feature and along the footpath until you come out into Corporal Lane. Turn left and walk along Corporal Lane until you reach a recently resurfaced track on the right hand side. Follow the track which should lead you back to where you first started. End of the first loop of the figure 8. This first section of the walk is approx. 2.5 miles. Now go through the stile on the left at the bottom of the track, up the hill, over the wall stile, to the top end of Medley Lane. Continue past the large boulders and through the archway of trees. Proceed with caution; large Arachnids have been spotted in this area, you have been warned! The track will be crossed by Teal Lane, continue uphill until you reach a cottage on the left hand side with a footpath sign pointing to the left, Keep your eyes and ears open and you might get to see and hear a peacock. Soon you will climb over a rather tricky stile (tricky when you only have short legs). Bare left and start the descent. Continue walking down the track, notice the wooden jumps which we presume at sometime have been used for Point to Point. There is another tricky stile (again for those with short legs, tall slim people won’t have a problem). The end of the track brings you to a familiar spot. Now all that is left is for you to retrace you steps back over the wall stile, down the field and back to your starting point.
