Geocache Description:

Follow through on an mgb concept and as homage to puzzle caches I have placed here.

This location was the 2nd stroke waypoint for my original Chick Evans puzzle. Only a few cachers ever visited this location. A real hotbed of caching activity since 2004, the cache averaged 1 visit per 110 days. 2011 and 2012 each brought only 1 set of hunters for the smiley that awaited. In the last 7 months before it was archived, it netted no logs at all. In homage, in June of 2013 I placed a new puzzle here. A simple little field puzzle as an experiment to shall see if this cache would get more visits, or if the title of the cache ("Cachers Ignore Puzzles") was indeed true.

That cache (GC4EW9G) received a paltry 16 visitors in the 23 months it was in operation.

This cache now enters its control phase for the experiment, I am re-listing the cache as a traditional, to see if more cachers come to visit.  Note: all other attributes of the cache remain identical, the posted coordinates, the actual location of the cache (same as it always was at the posted coordinates) and the cache container itself are all the same as when this cache was listed as a puzzle.  Even the original instructions will remain listed, although the puzzle elements will be changed to strikeout font and remain  for reference only, though one may still follow them - they do, as they alway have, lead to the container.

The converted cache has been re-listed under a new GC-code, so finders of the original puzzle version of the placement may be rewarded with a bonus find, should they return to visit this incarnation - they already know where to find it.

To find the final cache, do the following:

  • Go to the posted coordinates.
  • At the posted coordinates find a Forest Preserve sign.
  • Count the numbers on the front of the sign and multiply by 13.5 times the number of holes at this course.
  • Call this number X.
  • At a bearing from True North determined by multiplying together the number of letters in the first and last name of this course, project a waypoint X feet away.
  • Make sure you have the posted coordinates in your GPS.
  • Go get the cache.
