Explore newly planted woodland, search the sky for peregrine falcons, and see if you can spot signs of otters, which use the Overtoun and Garshake burns to travel to the lochs high in the Kilpatrick Hills.
Named after the rocky outcrop which dominates the skyline above Dumbarton, Lang Craigs is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for the tall herbs that grow on the cliffs, safe from hungry mouths. It is one of 14 Commonwealth Woods created as part of the Legacy of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The site was bought by The Woodland Trust Scotland in 2011 and more than 200,000 trees, including oak, birch and Scots pine have been planted, creating new native woodland for the benefit of wildlife and people.
The best route to discover Lang Craigs leads from the car park at Overtoun House. The path gradually leads you to the top of the glen, with stunning views of the Clyde, Dumbarton Rock and Ben Lomond.
