Fun for the 4th! An opportunity to visit (free) Stratford Hall and surrounding area. A chance for folks to learn about geocaching and a chance for those who have been geocaching for days, weeks, years to get together and exchange stories AND to perhaps assist some "newbies" find their first cache. We want to introduce geocaching to others and provide a chance for "locals" to perhaps explore some "new" territory as well as have a chance to visit some historically significant sites on this important day.
It will be a good day for a picnic. Bring plenty of water for those hikes along the trails.
As you make your way from the Fredericksburg area, you will pass/visit Washington's Birthplace. The event is being help at Stratford Hall, the home of the Lees of Va. (NO admission charge on this day). There were several Lees who contributed to our history including signing the Declaration of Independence. Close by is Menokin, one of the spots Captain John Smith visited in his travels. Menokin has a fascinating preservation of the home. You will also be very close to Westmoreland State Park which has a number of caches as well. There are geocaches at each of these historically significant sites so you can make a day of the event and also finding caches.AND visiting history!
The event will be held from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM. You can hike, explore the beaches of the Potomac and enjoy the 4th!!!
There are currently six caches in place with more to come.
