Between 1821 and 1880, the Santa Fe Trail was primarily a highway connecting Merchants between Missouri and Santa Fe, New Mexico. However, the trail was also used by stagecoach lines, gold seekers heading to the California and Colorado gold fields, adventurers, fur trappers, and emigrants. When the rail road was extended to reach the Old West, the Santa Fe Trail was forgone. In order to preserve our past, the Daughters of the American Revolution have placed trail markers along the Santa Fe Trail. Here lies one of our local markers reminding us of that perilous journey of the past.
