Geocache Description:

You are looking for a Bison tube that is hidden a step or two off the one mile loop walking trail in Silver Creek Park.  Please re-hide the container exactly as you find it to help keep it from falling prey to muggles, of which there is a plentiful supply at times in the park.

This cache was hidden on the sesquicentennial of the death of Pvt. John Jefferson Williams of Co. B, 34th Regiment of Indiana Infantry. He was born in Jay County, Indiana in 1843 and died on May 13,1865 in the Battle of Palmito Ranch, Cameron County, Texas. He was the last man killed in action in the Civil War. The most widely quoted figure for military deaths in the Civil War is 620,000., although it was likely much higher than that. To put that figure in perspective, it is estimated that 1,264,000 soldiers have died in all US wars from the Revolution to Iraq-Afghanistan, viz., 620,000 Civil War, 644,000 all other wars. It was not until Vietnam that the total of all wars exceeded the Civil War total. Those 620,000 deaths represented 2% of the population at the time of the Civil War. Two percent of the current population is 6,417,000. Imagine if Iraq-Afghanistan cost over 6.4 million lives. May God rest Pvt. John Williams and all his fallen brothers and sisters. There is a portrait of Pvt Williams below.
