Geocache Description:

This was placed following a Respect Wildlife presentation by Kerry, a member of the Water 7 AmeriCorps trail crew that assists BLM in trail construction and maintenance.  The occasion was a Leave No Trace Trainers Course that I periodically conduct fro various groups, especially AmeriCorps, Eco Servants and Boy & Girl Scout leaders.

It's a hike or horseback excursion, so be ready for the backcountry.  It is recommended that you stop at the Rob Jaggers Campground and pickup the BLM NCA tails brochure. The campground host can also give you information about the trails and usually has updated trail maps on hand. You can reach the cache location by either going up on West Mesa and following the Elk Meadow Trail, or go to the Rio Bonito Petroglyph Site parking spot, cross the footbridge and hike west on the trail to Elk Meadow Trail.  Plan Ahead and Prepare - check the weather forecast.  Wear a boonie hat, use sunscreen, wear hiking clothes and boots, bring sufficient water - if it's hot, bring 2 quarts or your Camelbak.  You'll likely want snacks and luch too.  Be on alert for the typical arid environemnt critters.

Most of all, have fun...
