The Hallene Gateway was originally an entrance to the University Hall, built in 1872 (the fourth building on campus). The building was destroyed in 1938 after a ceiling collapse, and the gateway was moved to Allerton Park. The gateway was forgotten.
Time and nature claimed the gateway until its rediscovery in 1994. It was placed in its current location in 1998, and serves as a link to the distant past.
