There were originally some COMMEMORATIVE WOODEN COINS that were contained in each museum geocache, and you could take one. Due to popularity, many of the museum caches no longer have any of the coins available in the caches, but you may go inside during business hours and check with the host location to see if they have any left on hand.

NOTE: Be sure to write down the NUMERIC CODE associated with, and contained in each cache. Those numbers will be used to locate the coordinates to the BONUS CACHE for this series!

On August 9th, 1905, the Rock Island County Historical Society was legally incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois. The Society’s mission was “to study and learn, to collect and preserve, and to disseminate the history of Rock Island County”. In 1919, the Society started to display their artifacts at the Rock Island County Court House, as they contemplated a permanent home for their collection. After the death of Burton F. Peek, Mrs. Charles Deere Wiman purchased the Peek house to give to the Society to use as a library and a museum. In 1966, the house opened to the public. Then in 1992 a large addition to the home was completed for an expanded research library. Today the Historical Societies’ collections have grown to over 400 archival collections, over 10,000 photographs, 6,000 books, 40,000 vertical files, and over 600 reels of microfilm.
