Geocache Description:

The 'Fifth' Concession Cemetery dates back well over 100 years. It is connected to the United States Revolution and the British Empire Loyalists who fled to Upper Canada.

A historic plaque is located just inside the entrance to the cemetery.

This cemetery was originally known as the 'Fifth Concession Cemetery' and was located on the Fifth Concession of Westminster Township in the County of Middlesex. Due to almagamaton the Township of Westminster disappeared after a large annexation by the City of London and the extreme eastern portion of the township was given to the Municipality of Thames Centre, formerly the Townships of West Nissouri and the Township of North Dorchester. The cemetery has been in use since 1840 but officially came into use in 1861 with the last burial taking place here in 1950. The cemetery was restored in 1980 when all of the tombstones in the cemetery were moved to where they are located today. The land where the tombstones are now located was leveled and and three rows of concrete pads were put in place with family tombstones being grouped to gether. The older tombstones are laid flat and the later and taller tombstones were placed in the back row. Today the cemetery is known as the Derwent Cemetery after the community of Derwent which was located at the corner of the Fifth Concession and what is now Westchester Bourne. A few geocachers may have been here previously in search of Derrell's elusive geocache 'Derrell's Stumper'which I had adopted and have archived as the hide materials aged and the hide disappeared along with the materials. Derrell's Stumper was hidden in the vicinity of the current hide.
