Langs de gewestweg Veurne-Ieper (N8) staat in een weilandje op de hoek met de Romanestraat een merkwaardig gebouwtje. Dit inmiddels beschermd monument deed in de Eerste Wereldoorlog dienst als keuken voor Belgische en Franse soldaten. Het gebouwtje vormt de enige nog bewaarde bakstenen militaire keuken (bouwjaar vermoedelijk 1917). Deze hoofdkeuken lag in het kantonnement Lo-Pollinkhove en vormde een onderdeel van de barakkenkampen voor de inkwartiering van Belgische troepen en Franse eenheden achter de Belgische frontlinie.
Bij het leggen van deze cache was de toestand van het gebouwtje nog in zeer slechte staat en een restauratie drong zich op.
De weide werd ingericht met parkeergelegenheid, fietsenstalling, verharding naar het gebouw, picknickplaats, groenvoorziening en onthaalinfrastructuur. De veldkeuken kan gebruikt worden als overdekte picknickruimte.
. . . . . Cuisine militaire de campagne Gapaard (WWI) Le long de la route régionale de Furnes-Ypres (N8), un petit bâtiment pittoresque se dresse au coin de la Romanestraat dans un pré. Ce monument, désormais protégé, a servi de cuisine aux soldats belges et français pendant la première guerre mondiale. Le bâtiment est la seule cuisine militaire en briques conservée (année de construction probablement 1917). Cette cuisine principale était située dans la cantine Lo-Pollinkhove et faisait partie des camps de casernes pour l'inauguration des troupes belges et des unités françaises derrière la ligne de front belge. Lors de la pose de cette cache, l’état du bâtiment était toujours en très mauvais état et une restauration était imminente. La prairie était équipée d'un parking, d'un parking pour bicyclettes, d'une chaussée sur le bâtiment, d'une aire de pique-nique, d'un aménagement paysager et d'une infrastructure de réception. La cuisine de campagne peut être utilisée comme aire de pique-nique couverte.

This monument, now protected, served as a kitchen for Belgian and French soldiers during the First World War. The building is the only preserved brick military kitchen (year of construction probably 1917). This main kitchen was located in the Lo-Pollinkhove canteen and was part of the barracks camps for the inauguration of Belgian troops and French units behind the Belgian front line. When laying this cache, the condition of the building was still in a very bad condition and a restoration was imminent. The meadow was equipped with parking, bicycle parking, pavement to the building, picnic area, landscaping and reception infrastructure. The field kitchen can be used as a covered picnic area.
